Why has the deposit increased this year?
We first want to make sure families are aware that 100% of their deposit goes toward the price of their camp(s) so although the deposit has increased, camp prices have not so registrants are simply paying off more of the balance at the time of registration. Unfortunately, in past years, we have seen an increase in the number of families that were reserving spots in camps with the lower deposit and then withdrawing from the camp shortly before the camp was to run, after families on our wait list had already been forced to find alternative options. We increased the deposit to encourage a higher commitment or consideration to a camp before the decision to register.
Explore our camp offerings and schedules at Camps. You will see a link to a registration page for your camp(s) of choice. If you have not registered for camps with us before, get a head start by creating a profile for each child. Establishing your account early will save you time during registration when camps fill quickly. After creating an online profile for your camper, you may register either online by adding each camp of interest to your shopping cart or call our Registration Center at 704‑687‑8900.
Camp registrations are made on a first-come, first–serve basis and no exceptions will be made. If a camp is full, a waiting list is created and spots will continue to be filled based on registration date from the wait list. No exceptions are made including for siblings of currently registered campers. This is to ensure a fair and equitable registration process for all campers and parents.
Be sure to register early to ensure a spot in your camp(s) of choice.
Is there a payment plan available? What if I cannot pay the remaining balance by the deadline?
Yes, for your convenience, we offer a non-refundable deposit of $100 towards each camp to which you register a camper. You can pay in any increments you wish along the way, however the remaining balance for each camp MUST be paid in full at least two weeks prior to the start of camp. Registrants will be reminded before the deadline passes.
If payment is not received, the camper will be withdrawn from the camp. If the camp is not yet full, the registrant may choose to re-register the camper if a space is still available and make the payment in full at that time, however if a wait list was in place, the spot will be filled immediately.

We are very empathetic to the many variables that may make full payment of the camp registration difficult or situations that may arise in which a parent may need to register a sibling of a currently enrolled camper after a camp has filled. We have found however, that when exceptions are made, other parents and campers often suffer the consequences as their camper who is on the waiting list loses his/her potential spot even though they registered first. Going forward, therefore there will be no priority registration for siblings of enrolled campers.
Similarly, with prior exceptions made to individuals for non-payment by the payment deadline, a precedent was being set in which there was no fair way to make an exception for one parent and not another.
We have decided therefore to be proactive in informing parents that due to the demand of our summer camps, all registrants are encouraged to register all campers in their family at the same time and complete those registrations early in the registration period and have their balances paid in full at least two weeks prior to the camp to avoid withdrawal of their camper.
Camp Resources for Registered Campers
When will I receive specific information pertaining to the camp for which I register?
In previous years, a parent information “packet” was emailed shortly preceding each camp. To make these resources more accessible and timely, the information “packets” will now be posted under our Parent Resources between March and April 2014. An email will be sent to registrants once the information packets are posted online.
Where will drop-off/pick-up be? Where can I find a campus map?
Currently, we are in the process of reserving our space needs through UNC Charlotte Conference Services. Once this location is determined, we will post that information here in our FAQs as well as under Parent Resources.

What are the procedures for late drop-off and early pick-up
Camps on Campus, with the exception of our Play-well TEKnologies Lego camps, are FULL DAY camps and our campers are immersed in activities from 9:00 AM-4:00 PM in their classrooms or on offsite field trips each day. Camp drop-off times for full day camps are between the hours of 7:30 AM-8:45 AM and pick-up is 4:30 PM-5:30 PM in Lot 8. We recognize however that doctor appointments or other obligations may periodically require a late drop-off or early pick-up.
With new university guidelines of adult to child ratios and necessary van usage throughout the day, transporting and supervising late drop-off and early pick-ups has become a challenge. We must request that any drop-offs or pick-ups outside of our normal hours be done in your child’s classroom. Please refer to the classroom and visitor parking map below. For safety and security of campers, the room number to your camp will be sent to you via email but only the building will be listed online. We do ask that you continue to notify our office at 704‑687‑8900 of late arrivals and early pick-ups so that we can inform the camp counselor.
Will my child/camper be safe while participating in Camps on Campus?
The safety of our campers is our #1 priority during the Camps on Campus program. All camp instructors, counselors, and staff are put through a mandatory criminal background check before being hired. Campers are supervised at all times by at least 1-2 camp counselors, all of whom are over the age of 18 and have completed training including training on new policies regarding supervision of minors on campus, training by Student Health Services on common issues such as food allergies/EpiPen injections, etc. All camp counselors will carry a portable first-aid kit and a cell phone to communicate with camp administrators and 9-1-1 if necessary. My child has an allergy/medical issue; will that be documented?
At the time you register your camper, all medical and allergy information will be collected. A detailed spreadsheet is maintained of each enrolled camper each week and that information is distributed to the corresponding camp counselor, instructor, and camp staff interacting with that camp. All camp counselors will be trained by Student Health Services on allergies and related medication.
If accommodations are needed for a camper with disabilities, documentation of the disability should be provided and accommodation requested at least two weeks before the start of camp.
Reasonable and appropriate accommodations will be made available upon request for persons with disabilities. Accommodation requests must be specifically relayed at least two weeks prior to the start of the camp. You must notify both the Office of Continuing Education and the UNC Charlotte Office of Disability Services with accommodation requests.

Do you have policies regarding camper conduct?
We have a formal policy on good character expectations, anti-bullying, and fostering an inclusive camp environment. This will be largely based on the American Camp Association’s standards. These policies are posted to our website but will also be taught and enforced by our Camp Counselors and Instructors Bullying. In addition we invite you to consider our “Super Heroes: Characters with Character” camp for Cool School grade levels that will further reinforce topics such as self-esteem, inclusion, assertiveness, anti-bullying prevention, and overall good character.
I would like to teach a camp or be a camp counselor, how do I apply?
Camp counselors must be at least 18 years of age according to new policies set forth by the university for supervision of minors on campus. In addition, we require that counselors are enrolled college students with significant leadership experience and experience working with children and youth. Resumes/applications are being accepted for camp counselor positions through UNC Charlotte Human Resources.
I would like to be a Counselor-in-Training. What are my next steps?
Experienced campers age 13-17 and past counselors or CITs who do not meet the new minimum counselor requirements are encouraged to complete a Counselor-in-Training (CIT) application at /counselor-training-volunteers.
I am interested in athletic camps, does UNC Charlotte offer those?
Available athletic camps are currently offered through the Athletic Department. Information can be found at http://www.charlotte49ers.com.
Will Motorsports camps be offered?
The Motorsports Engineering department will not be hosting a motorsports camp in Summer 2014. We welcome parents to check back with us in future summers or with the Motorsports Engineering department.

What academic topics are covered in your camps?
Some of our camps, such as Robotics and Electronics, focus on a specific academic discipline. The majority of our camps however are designed as integrated and cross-disciplinary. Our Camp Instructors, particularly for Cool School and 49er Minors are experienced K-12 licensed teachers who are skilled at integrating language arts, math, science, social studies, and other disciplines into their lessons and Camps on Campus gives them the creative freedom to adapt those lessons into hands-on, interactive activities. Our instructors are also experienced in adapting the curriculum to a wide range of grade levels and skill and ability levels. Our advanced campers will be challenged and our novice campers will get the support they need.
To best serve both new and returning campers, we try to maintain a mix of repeated camp topics AND brand new topics for our campers and their families to explore.
I am interested in computer science/IT camps for my campers. Where are those?
We are looking forward to offering more computer science camps in future summers. For 2014, the necessary labs for such camps as gaming, etc. are undergoing renovation and there was also a shortage of faculty or graduate assistants who would be available to teach these camps.
